Monroeville, PA – State Senator Nick Pisciottano (D-Allegheny) announced this week that more than $2.1 million has been approved for school safety initiatives in Allegheny County through the Pennsylvania Commission on Crime and Delinquency (PCCD), chaired by Lieutenant Governor Austin Davis.

In total, Allegheny County schools and educational institutions were recommended to receive $2,125,260 to support school security enhancements, violence prevention efforts, mental health supports, and school security personnel.

“Parents should have confidence that their children are safe and secure while at school,” Senator Pisciottano said. “These investments will help schools strengthen security measures and improve preparedness for students, educators, and staff.”

The grants were approved by PCCD’s School Safety and Security Committee as part of a statewide funding package investing nearly $19.4 million in school safety projects across Pennsylvania.

In addition to approving grant awards, the School Safety and Security Committee adopted updated School Security Personnel Training Standards. The revisions were developed by PCCD in cooperation with the Pennsylvania Department of Education and Pennsylvania State Police as directed by the School Code. The committee also approved updated Physical Security and Behavioral Health baseline standards that help guide school safety and mental health investments across the Commonwealth.
