Monroeville, PA – Following U.S. Steel and Nippon Steel’s announcement of a major investment in the Mon Valley Works, State Senator Nick Pisciottano, State Representative Dan Goughnour, State Representative John Inglis, and Allegheny County Councilman Aaron Adams issued the following statement:

We welcome U.S. Steel and Nippon Steel’s announcement of up to $2.5 billion in investments at the Mon Valley Works, including a new hot strip mill at the Edgar Thomson facility in Braddock. This commitment represents one of the most significant industrial investments in our region in decades and sends a strong message that the Mon Valley remains central to American steelmaking.

The project is expected to preserve approximately 3,000 existing jobs, support thousands more during construction and throughout the regional economy, and generate significant tax revenue for local communities and the Commonwealth. These investments will modernize operations, improve efficiency, strengthen domestic steel production, and help position the Mon Valley Works to compete in the global steel market for generations to come.

This level of commitment is needed now more than ever. U.S. Steel and Nippon are delivering tangible results that the whole region can benefit from: good-paying jobs, community investment, and a return to prominence for the historic company. This investment reinforces what we’ve always known: the Mon Valley has the workforce and expertise to lead the next chapter of American manufacturing. We look forward to seeing these commitments translated into good-paying union jobs and economic development for the region.

We appreciate U.S. Steel and Nippon Steel’s continued commitment to the Mon Valley and look forward to working with labor leaders, local officials, community stakeholders, and the company to ensure these investments deliver lasting benefits for the region.
